The Home Office has released the latest annual and quarterly immigration statistics
- Control of Immigration: Statistics United Kingdom 2008 and supplementary excel tables
- Control of Immigration: Quarterly Statistical Summary, United Kingdom - Second Quarter 2009 and supplementary excel tables
The annual statistics show that in 2008 the number of asylum applications received in 2008 was 25,930, 11 per cent more than in 2007 (23,430).
The West Midlands Strategic Migration Partnership has produced a report entitled Narrowing the Gap – Improving health pathways for asylum seekers dispersed from initial accommodation in the UKBA Midlands and East of England region
The Chief Inspector of Prisons has released two new reports:
- Detainees under escort A short review of detainees under escort at Queen’s Building and Terminal 3, Heathrow Airport
- Report on an announced inspection of Lindholme Immigration Removal Centre

Africa Writing Europe is a new anthology offering “critical readings of the meaning and presence of Europe in a variety of African literary texts.” The topics covered include “new perspectives developed through exile, both as voluntary and as forced migration.”
